eInsights - October 2009Walk-N-Roll for Spina BifidaSBA is pleased to announce a new national event designed to raise awareness about Spina Bifida! The Walk-N-Roll for Spina Bifida is a family-friendly walk event being held in various locations across the country to celebrate the accomplishments of the estimated 166, 000 Americans living with its challenges. The name "Walk-N-Roll" was selected because it embodies a sense of inclusiveness and invokes the sense of empowerment which the Spina Bifida Community embraces in all that it does. A belief in a better tomorrow is our vision and the steps taken in this walk represent steps on a path to realizing that dream. What community participation means to our ChaptersThree SBA Chapters are piloting the Walk-N-Roll in their local areas this fall and we expect many more to join in next spring. This is a great way to gather members of the community to raise awareness about Spina Bifida and make new friends while staying active.
The newly formed Spina Bifida Association of the Mid-Atlantic Region is delighted to be the latest Chapter added to the Spina Bifida community and will hold its first annual Walk-N-Roll in Washington, DC on November 7. “We’re so excited about this event and have received great support from the local community helping us make people more aware about Spina Bifida in our area,” says Michelle Van Hoff, Spina Bifida Association Walk Manager. Not to be outdone by the east coast Chapters, the SBA of Arizona will hold its first annual Walk-N-Roll on October 31. “The Walk-N-Roll for Spina Bifida is dedicated to raising funds for programs and services to benefit those with Spina Bifida in Arizona. We are gathering in Phoenix to make a difference and show our belief that a better tomorrow is within our reach.” says Ben Scanlan, President of SBA of Arizona. Thanks to your help, a better tomorrow is in sightSBA of Connecticut held its Walk-N-Roll event in late September and received an amazing turnout from their community. “We had about 100 people show up, which was a surprise because of the rainy weather. A great time was had by all!” said Kiley Carlson, Executive Director of SBA of Connecticut.
