Health Care Blogger Chronicles Life with Spina Bifida

Laura Tellado, an adult with Spina Bifida, has taken to the web to share her messages about living with Spina Bifida. Featured on the Marquis Healthcare Web site, Laura, is a 2010 graduate of the University of Central Florida holding a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies, Communications, and Social & Behavioral Sciences.

For those e-Insights readers who are on Facebook, you may already know Laura and the unique perspective she brings to her writing as an adult living with Spina Bifida. For the Marquis Healthcare Web site, Laura’s writing focuses on health and lifestyle issues relating to her physical condition and personal outlook. Her knowledge and experience creates community, promotes education, and brings a higher level of service to Marquis Healthcare patients.

Since August 2009, Laura has challenged the public in her personal blog, "Holdin' Out for a Hero," where she promotes Spina Bifida awareness among the media and entertainment industries, public, and non-profit sectors. Laura's warm and inclusive style has drawn many readers as she chronicles her experiences as an individual with Spina Bifida.

Laura currently resides in Orlando, Florida but she is originally from Puerto Rico. She has been featured on the Latinos in Social Media site (LATISM), bringing awareness to the issues facing many Latinos with Spina Bifida, the community most often affected by Spina Bifida births. One Voice Radio affectionately refers to her as "LATISM's Sweetheart." She has made her community extremely proud in being a voice for them and hopes to increase awareness about Spina Bifida.
