CDC’s Urologic Management to Preserve Initial Renal Function Protocol for Young Children with Spina Bifida (UMPIRE)

Children with Spina Bifida often have problems urinating, which can lead to kidney damage. CDC’s Urologic Management to Preserve Initial Renal Function Protocol for Young Children with Spina Bifida (UMPIRE) works to protect the kidneys of babies born with Spina Bifida and reduce the need for surgery. Correctly monitoring the bladder and kidneys, with medical treatment as needed, may eliminate some or all kidney damage.
