Back To School: Becoming an Advocate and Champion for Inclusive Play
7 PM ET / 6 PM CT / 5 PM MT / 4 PM PT
This session will helps parents and advocates understand why play is essential for every child’s growth—and how inclusive playgrounds can meaningfully support children with Spina Bifida by nurturing cognitive, physical, sensory, and social development. Participants will learn how to communicate the importance of play to schools and community partners, gain insight into playground design and funding, and explore practical strategies for advocating effectively, from knowing who to approach to making strong, informed requests. The session will also highlight real opportunities for adding inclusive play through new builds, retrofits, phased additions, and school‑based recreation, equipping families to partner with educators, parks departments, and local leaders to ensure children with Spina Bifida have access to meaningful, developmentally rich play.
