National Women’s Health Week

May 14, 2023 – May 20, 2023 is Women’s Health Week!

Women and girls with Spina Bifida have specific needs and concerns, especially in the context of sexuality, pregnancy, and childbirth. Every woman’s and girl’s body undergoes multiple changes throughout her lifetime, and these changes are further impacted by Spina Bifida. We’ve compiled resources surrounding the theme of Women’s Health that you can view at any time.

  • Women’s Health Guideline – This guideline aims to address many of the main health concerns specific to women with Spina Bifida.
  • Healthcare for Women Info Sheet – What women with Spina Bifida need to know about sexuality, fertility and preventive care.
  • SB-YOU: Women’s Health and Self-Advocacy – In this presentation, Tara Harris, MD at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX, and five women with Spina Bifida will talk about what should (and shouldn’t) happen during a Well-Woman preventive care appointment, and what steps women should take to be active participants in their health care. Please be advised that this presentation will describe Well-Woman preventive care exams and reproductive care in detail.
  • Sexuality and Women’s Health – 2022 Education Day for Adults with Spina Bifida Breakout Session – Doreen E Chung, MD, Columbia University, Irving Medical Center, NY and Corinne McLeod, MD, FACOG, Albany Medical Center discuss bladder management, sexuality, and preventive screenings for women with Spina Bifida.
