Meet Christina Fanitzi, Army Colonel and Mrs. New York 2025. A decorated military officer with over 22 years of service, Christina has led troops across the globe, served as a White House Fellow, and currently mentors over 1,000 cadets at West Point. But her most profound mission began at home with her two-year-old son, Christian.
Christian was born with Spina Bifida Myelomeningocele, a neural tube defect that occurs when a baby’s neural tube fails to develop or close properly. This lifelong disability has no cure and presents a range of daily challenges. Each experience is unique, but the need for visibility, support, and advocacy is universal.
Motivated by her son’s journey, she joined the board of The Spina Bifida Association of New York State (SBANYS) to make a local impact. In 2025 she ran the New York City Half Marathon with SBANYS as her chosen Charity Partner. She continued her fundraising efforts through Walk-N-Roll® for Spina Bifida, a fundraiser that brings the Spina Bifida community together for in-person connection and to support the Spina Bifida Association’s mission.
Christina saw the Mrs. New York pageant as a platform to continue raising awareness for Spina Bifida.
“This isn’t about a crown,” Christina shared. “It’s about community. It’s about raising awareness for families like mine, who live every day navigating challenges that most people never see.”
When Army Colonel Christina Fanitzi was crowned Mrs. New York America 2025, it was more than just a personal victory, it became a bold testament to resilience, advocacy, and purpose. She wasn’t using her voice and visibility for a crown, but for a cause.
Christina is preparing to compete at the Mrs. America pageant this August. She continues to use this powerful platform to raise awareness about Spina Bifida. Her journey is a great example of how to use personal passion to raise awareness of Spina Bifida and amplify the voice of the Spina Bifida Association.
Cheer on Christina as she shines on the national stage. Follow her journey in the Mrs. America pageant on August 27!
